Plymouth is a beautiful port city in Devon that has so much to offer people of all ages. It is one of UK’s most popular tourist attractions and it is easy to see why. The only problem is, there is so much to do that if you don’t organise your time properly and really think about your visit, there’s a good chance you won’t get chance to do it all. Which is why we put together this guide, breaking down all the fantastic activities Devon and more specifically, Plymouth, has to offer and listing everything you need to consider before taking your trip.

Devon’s Tourist Attractions

If you are visiting Plymouth, here are some tourist attractions that you really need to do and see:

  • National Marine Aquarium: the UK’s largest aquarium featuring over 4000 animals including sharks, stingrays, octopuses, jellyfish and turtles.
  • Mount Edgcumbe House & Country Park: the former home of the Earls of Mount Edgcumbe, located in 865 acres of Grade I Cornish Country Park.
  • The Arts Institute: Arts Institute’s Levinsky Gallery and wide-ranging public arts programme includes exhibitions, films, music, dance, performance and talks.
  • Smeaton’s Tower: One of the world’s most famous lighthouses, built by John Smeaton in 1759 on the Eddystone reef.
  • The Box: Plymouth’s new museum, art gallery and archive, featuring 9 permanent galleries which includes 14 monumental ships’ figureheads, thousands of natural history examples, a even a full-size woolly mammoth replica.
  • Bantham Beach: At the mouth of River Avon, this is a beautiful little beach.
  • Drakes Island: take a guided tour, walk through the tunnels, see the wildlife and view Plymouth in all its beauty.
  • Tinside Lido: Votes as one of Europe’s top 10 outdoor pools, Tinside Lido overlooks the sea at the tip of Plymouth Hoe
  • Dartmoor National Park: a stunning country park and nature reserve.
  • Bovisand Beach: An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), with yellow sand and beautiful cliffs, perfect for snorkelling and swimming.

Getting active in Cornwall

Getting to and around Plymouth, Devon

When it comes to getting to Devon there are a lot of options for you. You can use your own vehicle and drive yourself there, although you will need to pay for fuel, car parking and you’ll have the inconvenience of driving yourself, learning your routes and losing time to things like looking for a parking space. You could use public transportation, such as taking a train or a coach, although this will not take you to your hotel or to the door of your destination, so you will have to do some walking (with your luggage) or take more public transportation. Another alternative is to use a Plymouth minibus hire, preferably one with a driver.

The benefits of Minibus Hire in Plymouth

There are lots of benefits to choosing minibus hire in Plymouth, instead of driving yourself or using public transport, including:

  • A minibus will give you and your entire party plenty of space, allowing your group to stay together and take as much luggage with you as you need.
  • You don’t have to worry about having any problems with your vehicle. If you drive your own car and something happens then you will need to put your plans on hold while you get your vehicle fixed. Whereas if you hire a minibus and something happens to it, the minibus company will replace it with a vehicle that works, allowing you to get the most out of your time in Plymouth.
  • Minibus travel is more relaxing if you also have a driver, there’s less chance of you getting lost, you don’t need to learn any routes and you can drive as much alcohol as you like (within reason of course).
  • A local driver will have local knowledge, meaning they will be able to make suggestions and recommendations that help you maximise your time. For example, they’ll know what routes get busy and should be avoided, or what areas are busier during certain times. Local drivers will able to suggest alternative routes to destinations, should there be any problems with the standard route.
  • You can dropped off and picked up from your door, you don’t need to worry about the weather or spending much time outside, instead you’ll be treated like royalty.

ASA Travel is by far the best coach service in the whole of Birmingham. Recently went to Blackpool and the times they arrived at the locations are the exact and perfect time, the service of dropping us to our destination was 10 out of 10. This was not the first time however, every time we go through ASA Travel they are consistent and efficient with their service which is why I would never choose another company. Thank you for the excellent service you continuously offer.
